Cranio-Facial Dry Needling

The Cranio-Facial Dry Needling course introduces participants to the importance of myofascial trigger points in the evaluation and management of patients with orofacial pain and dysfunction, tension-type headaches, and migraines, among others. Myofascial trigger points are a common feature of nearly all pain syndromes, including fibromyalgia, and are characterized by persistent pain, loss of function, and movement impairments.

Treatment involves manual therapy techniques, dry needling/injections, correcting biomechanical and postural dysfunction, and restoring normal movement patterns.

This two-day workshop is presented to teach the techniques of trigger point identification, effective manual techniques of inactivation of trigger points, and restoration of function. Students will be introduced to the scientific basis of trigger point therapy. Furthermore, this course includes a review of precipitating and perpetuating factors, and will introduce participants to the principles of intramuscular manual therapy (IMT), also called dry needling, and injection therapy. Each teaching block consists of an introductory lecture and demonstration, followed by supervised hands-on practice in small groups.

This is the first course of a series of three leading to Certification in Orofacial Trigger Point Dry Needling. This is a training program with immediate clinical applicability upon completion. This course is intended for dentists and physical therapists.
