About the Courses
Effective September 2009, the courses of the Janet G. Travell, MD Seminar Series have been revised. All courses, including the foundations course, now include the practice of intramuscular manual therapy (IMT), also known as trigger point dry needling. The American Physical Therapy Association agrees that the term “intramuscular manual therapy” is the preferred term to use for physical therapy practice. We recommend the term “dry needling” for physician practice and the term “trigger point acupuncture” for acupuncture practice.
The workshops are designed for licensed healthcare practitioners, who are allowed to use dry needling in their practice and jurisdiction, including physicians and physician assistants, dentists, physical therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, nurses, and nurse practitioners.
Massage therapists, body workers, neuromuscular therapists and others are invited to attend courses in our Myopain Seminars Massage Therapy Program (MS-MPT) which do not include needling therapies. The MS-MTP is scheduled to start in April 2010. For information, please email Mr. Stewart Wild at This site will feature detailed course information soon.
The Travell workshops combine lectures, demonstrations and practical hands-on training of manual therapies and trigger point dry needling. The Janet G. Travell, MD Seminar Series features excellent instructor-student ratios.
