We strive to offer our course participants the latest worldwide developments, research, treatment approaches, and other pertinent information about myofascial trigger points and myofascial pain. The Janet G. Travell, MD Seminar Series and the certification programs are offered in close international collaboration with other course programs:
The David G. Simons Academy in Switzerland offers a comprehensive international myofascial course, similar to the Janet G. Travell, MD Seminar Series. Christian Gröbli, PT and Ricky Weissmann, PT serve as international examiners for the Janet G. Travell, MD Seminar Series. Both Robert Gerwin and Jan Dommerholt have taught courses with the David G. In Spain, physical therapist Orlando Mayoral del Moral conducts many manual trigger point therapy and dry needling courses leading to university specialist certificates. Dr. Gerwin taught the first trigger point dry needling course in Spain together with Mr. Mayoral. Jan Dommerholt continues teaching advanced dry needling courses throughout Spain. Mr. Mayoral serves as one of the international examiners for the Janet G. Travell, MD Seminar Series.
The National Training Centre in Dublin, Ireland, offers the only National Qualification Examination in Trigger Point Needling for certified neuromuscular therapists in close coordination with the Janet G. Travell, MD Seminar Series. Director and NTC founder Mr. John Sharkey is the principal instructor assisted by Mr. Billy Byrne. In Ireland, at United Physiotherapy Clinic, physiotherapist Johnson McEvoy offers the only myofascial trigger point therapy courses exclusively for chartered physiotherapists. The courses are offered in conjunction with the David Simons Academy. Jan Dommerholt is a frequent guest instructor and he teaches dry needling courses with Mr. McEvoy and Swiss colleague Christian Gröbli. More information about the course program »
In the Netherlands, Carel Bron and Jo Franssen, physical therapists specialized in the treatment of patients with musculoskeletal disorders of the neck, shoulder, and arm, have developed a comprehensive course program in manual trigger point therapy since 2004. The course program is certified by the Royal Dutch Physical Therapy Association (KNGF). In 2008 the program will be extended with the first dry needling courses. The course program is developed in close cooperation with Myopain Seminars, Bethesda, MD, USA. Jan Dommerholt (Myopain Seminars, USA) serves as an advisor and teacher during several courses. In South Africa, at Optimal Dry Needling Solutions, physical therapists Bruce Barker, Claire Waumsley and Steven Stavrou have developed a comprehensive continuing education program in dry needling. The International MYOPAIN Society (IMS) is a nonprofit, international, interdisciplinary organization for research scientists, physicians, other health care professionals, individuals in training toward a health-related career, institutions, foundations, and commercial companies interested in exchanging ideas, conducting research, or learning more about soft tissue pain syndromes like myofascial pain syndrome and fi bromyalgia syndrome. The IMS is a membership organization in service to the medical community and supporting international MYOPAIN meetings. Membership benefits include a subscription to the Journal of Musculoskeletal Pain and a 10% discount on the Janet G. Travell, MD Seminar Series (except MPS 5 and MPS 6a/b).
