Dr. Finnegan is a member of several professional associations related to physical therapy and pain. She is a frequent presenter on the topic of dry needling. Michelle has coauthored many articles and book chapters about dry needling. She was one of the editors of the 3rd edition of the Travell and Simons Trigger Point Manual. Michelle has a particular interest in the treatment of the cervical spine, cranium, temporomandibular joint and shoulder girdle. In 2014, she became a board-certified Cervical and Temporomandibular Therapist (CCTT) through the Physical Therapy Board of Craniofacial & Cervical Therapeutics.
For fun Michelle enjoys spending time with her dog Dallas, an English Mastiff.
Michelle received her Master of Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University in 2001. In 2005, she received her Manual Therapy Certification (MTC) through the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. She completed a fellowship program and in 2007, she became a distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT). She also completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and became a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Dr. Finnegan completed the dry needling course program of Myopain Seminars and in 2009 she became certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling. Since 2006 she has been involved in with the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) for various activities related to the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) and the Orthopedic Practice Review Tool. In 2010 she met the requirements to become inducted into the Academy of Advanced Item Writers and in 2011 received an Outstanding Service Award.
