Description

During the ODN-2 course, emphasis is placed on the scientific basis of myofascial pain, and trigger point dry needling in the head, face, neck and shoulder region. Participants will continue with multiple practical sessions of dry needling of trigger points in the orofacial muscles including the occipito-frontalis, corrugator, procerus, zygomaticus, medial and lateral pterygoid, anterior and posterior digastric, and longus colli muscles. In addition, students will fine tune dry needling techniques of the muscles covered in the ODN-1 course. Theoretical lectures include topics including whiplash-associated disorders, hypermobility (i.e., Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), peripheral and central sensitization.

This is a three day course, which will prepare the participants for the Orofacial Dry Needling Certification Examinations on the third day of the course.

Course Objectives

- Demonstrate three different dry needling approaches for the lateral pterygoid muscle
- Discuss at least two clinical characteristics of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobility Type
- Compare and contrast three basic principles of dry needling and trigger point injections
- Discuss at least two differences between the risk of injury following low- and high-speed collisions
- Discuss the four stages of the movements of the head and trunk following a rear-end collision
