Dry Needling Courses for Physical Therapists in Florida

Physical therapists in the state of Florida can finally use dry needling on patients and in their clinics. Toward the end of June 2020, Governor DeSantis signed bill HB 467 into law, making dry needling courses for physical therapists legal in the State of Florida. After a long legal battle managed by Tad P. Fisher, CEO of the Florida Physical Therapy Association, the legal team of Cynthia Mikos, and many others, patients in Florida finally do have access to dry needling.

Have you considered learning dry needling in Florida? Myopain Seminars is “the obvious choice” for earning your CEU’s. Myopain Seminars has multiple course venues across the state of Florida, including:

Myopain Seminars President Jan Dommerholt and Senior Instructor Rob Stanborough have worked hard with the Florida APTA to get dry needling approved in the Sunshine State. In 2018, Jan was the main expert witness for the Florida APTA and was not only deposed but also was one of the key advocates in favor of dry needling for PTs in Florida during Administrative Court Hearings before the Honorable Lawrence P. Stevenson.

Dry Needling Courses Now Available in Florida

As expected, now that dry needling has been approved, several course providers are advertising their DN courses in Florida. How interesting that most of these providers were nowhere to be seen when it was time to stand up for our profession and testify and argue before the judge!

Rob Stanborough, DN instructor with Myopain Seminars, and one of the owners of First Coast Rehabilitation in St. Augustine has been promoting dry needling for many years and became the first PT who legally was allowed to use DN in Florida.

Jan Dommerholt, President/CEO of Myopain Seminars, was one of the key content experts during the administrative court hearings back in 2018. “I can’t thank you enough Jan for all your help,” says Tad Fisher. For more information about the process, see our blog Mr. Bibbey Strikes Again.

The History of Florida Approving Dry Needling for Physical Therapists

The faculty of Myopain Seminars have a long history of advocating for the physical therapy profession. Already in 1998, Dr. Jan Dommerholt approached the national APTA and urged the organization to take a positive stand on dry needling as an approach within the scope of physical therapy practice. In 2010, the APTA established a Dry Needling workgroup. Jan was one of the invited members.

During the next two decades, Jan has testified in many states to advocate for the scope of PT practice and dry needling, such as Virginia (2006), Colorado (2007), the District of Columbia (2009), Maryland (2009 – onwards), Michigan (2009), Delaware (2009), Oregon (2010), Georgia (2009), North Carolina (2010), Mississippi (2012), Washington (2016), and Florida (2018).

Did you know that currently, three Myopain Seminars instructors serve the profession as members of their State Physical Therapy Board? Dr. Tracey Adler serves on the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy. Dr. Keith Poorbaugh serves on the Alaska State Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Board, and Dr. Michelle Finnegan serves on the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners! Myopain Seminars’ faculty do much more for the physical therapy profession than providing outstanding continuing education courses!

“The DN course was hands down the best CEU course I have taken. The material is directly applicable to my patient population, and I can see how I will apply it in the future! – Dr. Delilah Balding, PT, DPT, St. Augustine, FL.”
