The Upper Quadrant Dry Needling I course features a brief introduction to the history of dry needling, trigger points, and myofascial pain, the OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standards within the context of dry needling, and an introduction to relevant pain sciences.
Many muscles commonly addressed in clinical practice are included, such as the deltoids, brachialis, biceps, triceps, anconeus, infraspinatus, upper trapezius, latissimus dorsi, teres major, teres minor, pectoralis major, subscapularis, supinator, brachioradialis, extensor carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi brevis, extensor digitorum, extensor carpi ulnaris, pronator, flexor carpi radialis, palmaris longus, flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor digitorum profundus, flexor carpi ulnaris, long thumb muscles, and extensor Indices. Students will review the anatomy, function, and dry needling techniques for each muscle.

Certified Hand Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists
Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy students in their senior year are welcome to attend the OT-DN-1 course. Proof of student status is required.
Occupational Therapy Assistants and Physical Therapy Assistants are not eligible to attend this course.
The Upper Quadrant Dry Needling I course consists of 34 hours.
This course has been approved for continuing education hours for occupational therapy practitioners by the Illinois Occupational Therapy Association - 27 contact hours.
Upper Quadrant Dry Needling I course possible discounts (may only use one)
The registration system automatically applies a 12% discount when you register for the whole Upper Quadrant Dry Needling course series (OTDN1 & OTDN2) at once.
When 3+ individuals register for one course on the same ticket, a 10% discount will be applied automatically.
New graduates, Active Military/Veterans, Residents, and Full-Time University Faculty are eligible for a 10% discount.
You may retake this course for a 50% discount.
Suppose you took a DN course with a competitor (except courses offered by the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy / Dry Needling Institute). In that case, you may take OT-DN1 with a 50% discount - You will need to pay full price at the time of registration. Upon receipt of your certificate from another Dry Needling provider and a note of for which course you have registered, the 50% discount will be credited to your credit card. Only one discount may be applied to any course.
- Discuss three basic principles of applied pain sciences as they relate to treating patients with musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.
- Demonstrate proper identification of 25 muscles of the body by surface anatomy and function.
- Demonstrate proper identification of the three key features of a trigger point.
- Perform four specific muscle and region-specific manual therapy treatments to inactivate myofascial trigger points.
- Compare and contrast three basic principles of dry needling and trigger point injections
- Name three key features of central sensitization
- Discuss at least four different forms of muscle overload that can lead to the formation of trigger points
